Since its inception, Voice of the City has encouraged artists to explore, develop, support, and produce inter-disciplinary visual arts & performance. Its program, Vaudeville Underground provides an ongoing performance venue for new work to over 70 performance groups, contracting over 200 artists since 2001. Voice of the City also produces (or co-produces) spring performances such as Present Imperfect, Full Circle Dance Festival, and now Circle in the Square: New Works in Dance Theatre. In addition, Voice of the City has been contracted to create art in collaboration with community groups. In 2005, Haas Park Advisory Council and the Trust for Public Land approached the alliance to work with the community to create art boards to brighten the Worldwide Distributors Building before its demolition, Phase I of the Haas Park expansion project.
As part of its mission, Voice of the City has provided quality fine arts education in Art, Dance, Theatre, Music, & Photo/Film to the Logan Square community. The allianceís longest running teaching program in its 8th year is Fine Arts for Kids of Logan Square. This program connects artists and children, allowing each to help the other discover more about the fine arts. Since the summer of 2006, Voice of the City has partnered with ALSO (Alliance of Local Service Organizations), After School Matters to offer the A.R.T. Artist Readiness Training Program, first a summer work-study for youth ages 14 to 21, now an on-going program. Voice of the City exhibits and presents artwork created by youth at the Palmer Square Boulevard Festival, a community event that attracts over 3,000 attendees, and at Vaudeville Underground.

Come celebrate the teaching art programs of
Voice of the City!
As of this year, Voice of the City offers art programs for Logan Square children, ages 3 months to 20 years old. Fine Arts for Kids (& Tots) of Logan Square, A.R.T. - Artist Readiness Training Program, and Reel Stories engages children in arts activities that allow them to tell their own stories.
When do we come?
Join us on Sunday, April 27, 2008 from 2 PM to 5 PM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square, 2649 N Francisco, as we present artwork and performances from our babies, tots, kids, and teens! Little ones will sing and make music, kids will show their visual and performance arts, while teens express stories through theatre and video.
These are our kids in all their innocence - whether they are babies, grammar school kids, high school students, or gang kids struggling to free themselves from the grip of the streets. Come listen to them, and be surprised by their enthusiasm, candor, joy and pain.
How can we support programs that build up our kids?
Arts foster the spirit of the individual and the community. Chicago has been crushed by the loss of 24 youth to violence this school year. This violence has reverberated through all our programs. Please come and give your support to Voice of the City programs that strengthen our community, that invest in our most precious resource, our children.
Our program partners include, ALSO (Alliance of Local Service Organizations), LSNA (Logan Square Neighborhood Association), and St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square. Sponsors include After School Matters, LISC (Local Initiative Support Corporation), and LSNA.
